TO MAKE OUR FATHERLAND THE PROMISED LAND : A POEM FOR NIGERIA.

Author: Nduka Delight U.

Freedom isn’t free,
There was a fight for what we have today.
Its been a long time, we’ve come a long way, Despite the situations and circumstance,
We made it through to this day.
Inspite of the bad instances,
We came out more than victorious.

Fifty seven years ago,
We succeeded with our walk to freedom,
Just like a bird let out of the cage,
But only that we are Eagles,
We don’t fly and perch,
But soar without perching.
And not like an hare, but as horses,
We run with strength and determination.
To make our fatherland
indeed the promise land.

Oneness of heart has kept us to this day,
United we stand and divided we fall,
Yes, a country of intriguing diversities,
Reminds me of my mother’s soup pot.
Though containing different ingredients,
They each learn to play their roles.

Nigeria celebrates its freedom
Fought for by men of honour
fifty seven years ago,
with Sleepless nights for our country.
We are not only blessed by our resources
But also by men of substance
Who saw to the very end,
that we are what we are today,
Independent.!

Happy Independence day.
