I STAND WITH THE EAGLE, I BELIEVE IN THE SUN:A POEM FOR NIGERIA

A black American once said,
“dead men tell no tales”.
Sometimes in my solitude, I stake.
Why would men possess the heart of Cain?

Knowing that  this world will fade
and through these walls, we will scale,
going naked as we came,
not minding our faith.

Nigeria, the land of eagles,
a land where diverse tribes were gathered in a twinkle.
Nigeria, the land of giants,
a land where all and sundry are gallant.

Nigeria, the land of opportunity,
a land where even God enjoys her serenity.
Nigeria, a home of crooks,
at the sight of the crimes in Nigeria, even Adolf Hitler will stand aloof.

I believe in one Nigeria,
and i have met up with all requirements and criteria.
I believe in the SUN,
i stand with the eagle that’s sure.
So let the SUN live, let the eagle soar.
But if the eagle prevents the SUN from living and refuses to soar,
let the eagle die,
let the SUN rise.
